A Big Oil Spill Off Huntington Beach
The 800-foot tanker American Trader spilled 400,000 gallons of crude oil off Huntington Beach after the ship ran over its own anchor while tying up to an offshore terminal. The spill was the worst off Southern California in 20 years, closing beaches for five weeks and killing more than 1,000 birds and animals.
