Legace Gets Second Consecutive Shutout

Manny Legace earned his second consecutive shutout, and Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk each had a goal and two assists to send the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night at Detroit.

Legace had to stop only 20 shots to stretch his scoreless streak to 165 minutes 6 seconds. It was the 11th shutout of his career.

Nicklas Lidstrom and Mikael Samuelsson each had a goal and an assist for Detroit, which won its fourth straight game. Mathieu Schneider and Brendan Shanahan got the other goals.

The Red Wings opened the scoring only 1:23 in when Lidstrom’s slap shot from the left point deflected off a Nashville player and past goalie Tomas Vokoun. It was Lidstrom’s 11th of the season.

Detroit scored three goals in the second period, blowing the game open as it outshot the Predators, 20-2, in the period.

New York Rangers 5, Ottawa 1 -- Jaromir Jagr had a goal and two assists, and Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves to easily outplay Dominik Hasek in the Rangers’ victory over the Senators at New York.

Jagr’s 36th goal gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the second period and moved him into a tie with Mike Bossy for 16th place on the NHL’s career list with 573. With his three points, Jagr passed Luc Robitaille of the Kings and Brett Hull for 18th place with 1,392.

Philadelphia 5, New York Islanders 2 -- Mike Richards scored three goals, leading the undermanned Flyers over the Islanders at Philadelphia.

Playing without their two leading scorers, Peter Forsberg and Simon Gagne, the Flyers ended a three-game losing streak and won for only the fifth time in 15 games to remain one point behind the Atlantic Division-leading Rangers.

St. Louis 4, Vancouver 2 -- Keith Tkachuk had a goal and two assists, and Patrick Lalime made 19 saves in his return to the NHL to lead the Blues at Vancouver, Canada.

Lalime returned for the first time since being demoted to the American Hockey League this season, taking over to start the second period after starter Curtis Sanford left because of back spasms.

Boston 3, Pittsburgh 1 -- Brad Stuart scored two power-play goals to lead the Bruins at Pittsburgh.

The Bruins, who outshot the Penguins 38-15, have earned at least one point in 11 of 13 games. Pittsburgh fell to 1-15-2 in its last 18.

San Jose 2, Chicago 1 -- Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton scored within a 45-second span, helping the Sharks end a four-game losing streak at home with a victory over the Blackhawks. Goalie Vesa Toskala improved to 6-0-2.
