Weekend box office

Record snow in the Northeast played havoc with box-office prognosticators as “The Pink Panther” came in nearly $1.5 million less than Sony projected Sunday. All but two of the top 10 movies -- “Underworld: Evolution” and “Big Momma’s House 2” -- came in lower than predicted. New Line’s “Final Destination 3” and Sony’s “When a Stranger Calls” were each off by the second largest amount, roughly $900,000, and others missed by tallies ranging from about $100,000 to $600,000. Sony’s “Underworld” and Fox’s “Big Momma” each brought in about $100,000 more than expected, and “Underworld” rose a notch from its Sunday position to No. 9 on Monday, with “Hoodwinked” slipping to No. 10.
