Sagestone soothes under the desert sun

Share

WITH the completion of Sagestone last month, Red Mountain Spa has added some antidotes to the adventure sports the resort is known for. Sure, there’s yoga at Red Mountain, but also lots of hiking, rock climbing, cycling and kayaking on its 55 acres of southwest Utah.

Sagestone replaces a much smaller facility at the Red Mountain resort. Designer Judith Testani transformed the old Pilates studio -- a geodesic-dome building -- into a three-story spa and salon. The salon is on top, 14 treatment rooms are on the bottom, and locker and steam rooms are in between. The dome is a short walk from the 85 guestrooms, which also were remodeled recently.

New treatments on the spa menu should keep the outdoorsy guests attractive and on the go. The Trekker Pedicure, for instance, exfoliates trail-abused feet with beach sand, crystals and sea salt before an algae-based foot masque. Leg massages and upper-body massages also are available -- and both come with Biofreeze muscle analgesic, just in case the aches come back on the trail.
