If Experience Counts, Then It’s Time to Count on Tiz Royalty

Santa Anita’s second full week of racing begins with a pick six carry-over of $137,596.

Two of the races in the sequence are scheduled on the turf, a $46,000 race for maidens at one mile and a $50,000 claimer for older fillies and mares at about 6 1/2 furlongs.

In the sprint, Tiz Royalty is the only member of the field with more than one win on the Santa Anita turf. The 6-year-old gray daughter of Cee’s Tizzy has won twice on the layout.

Her most recent win came in her last start on turf. On Oct. 2 she won a $40,000 claimer by one length at 3-1 under jockey Garrett Gomez, who will ride again today.

The only other mare in the race with a win on the local lawn is Wendy’s On To Me. She beat maidens by a half length going a mile last April 13. She will be making her second start for owner Paul Girdner and trainer Nick Hines since being claimed for $50,000 on Oct. 16. In her first start for those connections, she finished fourth in a field of five on the Hollywood Park main track on Nov. 18. She will be ridden by David Flores.

The other pick-six races are two maiden claimers, a starter allowance and an optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs for older fillies and mares.

Race of the day: Resplendency, who was scratched from Saturday’s Monrovia Handicap, surfaces in the $75,000 Kalookan Queen Handicap today at Santa Anita. Alex Solis will ride the 5-year-old Tale Of The Cat mare for owners Bob and Beverly Lewis and trainer Bob Baffert as she seeks her third consecutive win. Baffert is also scheduled to send out Western Hemisphere. Others in the field are Freakin Streakin, Cyber Slew, Nossa Cancao, Bright Design and Royally Chosen. The Kalookan Queen is the second race on the card.

One for the road: Mark Aim Fire gets a positive barn change to trainer Bob Klesaris and returns for the same price ($10,000) she was claimed for in today’s ninth at Aqueduct. The Swear By Dixie mare gets a jockey upgrade to Ramon Dominguez in the six-furlong race. She won the last two times she was ridden by Dominguez in Delaware.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Tiz Royalty in the sixth, Scarlett Memories, Cream Donut Keith and Seafree in the seventh and Adorn, Watch Me Win and Key Lime Time in the eighth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 2/17. Money: (previous day/meet total): $11/$111. Total money bet: $120.
