LOS ANGELES TIMES LIST FOR JAN. 18, 2006
1. Rachael Ray 365: No Repeats -- A Year of Deliciously Different Dinners by Rachael Ray (Clarkson Potter, $20) Published in time for recent holiday giving, this is the latest from the indefatigable Food Network star.
2. Julie and Julia by Julie Powell (Little, Brown, $24) The blogger who cooked her way through “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” expands her account in print.
3. Sunday Suppers at Lucques: Seasonal Recipes From Market to Table by Suzanne Goin (Knopf, $35) Another approach to cooking through the new year: Lucques chef Goin offers 132 recipes from her weekly market menus.
4. How to Cook Everything: Simple Recipes for Great Food by Mark Bittman (Wiley, $35) The recent publication of Bittman’s new “The Best Recipes in the World” seems to have rekindled interest in his 7-year-old, 1,500-plus recipe tome.
5. Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook by Martha Stewart (Clarkson Potter, $40) Team Martha’s lavishly illustrated and comprehensive baking primer with technique tutorials and more than 200 recipes.
6. Molto Italiano: 327 Simple Italian Recipes to Cook at Home by Mario Batali (Ecco, $35) Drawn from 10 years of “Molto Mario” TV shows.
7. Confessions of a French Baker: Breadmaking Secrets, Tips, and Recipes by Peter Mayle and Gerard Auzet (Knopf, $17) The memoirist and novelist paints a portrait of and debriefs baker Gerard Auzet of Cavaillon, Provence.
8. The Silver Spoon by Phaidon Press (Phaidon Press, $40) Although there are still waiting lists for copies because of distribution problems, many customers managed to get their hands on this translation of a classic Italian home-cooking text.
9. 2006 Los Angeles/So. California Restaurants edited by Laura Mitchell (Zagat Survey, $14) The most recent in the series of reader-rated restaurant guides.
10. The Essential Finger Food Cookbook by Wendy Stephen (Thunder Bay Press, $20) A chain of book stores is promoting titles in the “Essential” series.
