Police were investigating the death of a Silver Lake woman whose charred body was found inside a burning house in the 4000 block of Effie Street early Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said the woman, believed to be about 40, had not been identified, nor the cause of her death determined. The cause of the 3:47 a.m. blaze also was under investigation by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

More than 30 firefighters and three ambulance crews responded to the call. They found the one-story, single-family house in flames and extinguished the blaze in 13 minutes. The victim was found in a bedroom. No other injuries were reported.

Fire Department spokesman Brian Ballton said firefighters heard fireworks going off in the house during the blaze. But he added that he was “in no way implying that is the cause of the fire.”
