A body found by a hiker in the brush near Three Arch Bay this week has been positively identified as that of an elderly man suffering from dementia who disappeared last month, authorities said Wednesday.

Andre Mayenzet, 83, left home June 20 for his usual walk and had not been seen since. A hiker found the body Monday tangled in some brush just off an animal trail less than a quarter-mile from Mayenzet’s house. Authorities strongly believed at the time that it was Mayenzet, but had to wait for the coroner to make a positive identification using dental records.

An autopsy was inconclusive on the cause of death, authorities said.
