Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn., will hold its eighth annual Claiming Crown today, a series of seven races worth a total of $600,000.

The main event in the Claiming Crown is the $150,000 Jewel, a 1 1/16 -mile race for older horses who have started for a claiming price of $35,000 or less in the last year. The Jewel drew six entrants, including California shipper Me My Mine.

Claimed for $40,000 out of a narrow win on the turf on June 8 at Bay Meadows, the 6-year-old Belong To Me gelding will be making his first start for owner Richard Englander and trainer John Martin.

Me My Mine will appreciate the return to dirt because eight of his nine victories have come on the main track. He will be ridden by Roberto Gonzalez, who was aboard for two victories earlier this year when the gelding was trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

Earlier in the card, Full Moon Madness, the 11-year-old Half a Year gelding, will seek his 19th lifetime victory in the $75,000 Rapid Transit at six furlongs.

Race of the day: Hystericalady, who won the Hollywood Breeders’ Cup Oaks by 7 1/2 lengths on June 11 at Hollywood Park, is one of eight 3-year-old fillies scheduled to run 1 1/16 miles in the $500,000 Delaware Oaks at Delaware Park. Patrick Valenzuela, who was aboard for the win in Inglewood, has the call again in the Grade II stakes race for Hollendorfer, who co-owns the daughter of Distorted Humor with Rancho San Miguel.

One for the road: Rahys’ Appeal should improve in her second after a layoff and should get a ground-saving trip after breaking from the rail today in the seventh, the $65,000 Irish Actress, at Belmont Park. Channing Hill will ride the 4-year-old Rahy filly for owner-breeder Gallagher’s Stud and trainer Tom Bush in the 1 1/8 -mile turf race for New York-bred fillies and mares.

Exotically speaking: An early pick four using Striking Cobra, Hatna and Well Mam in the first, Cousin Joe in the second, Evanston and Under House Arrest in the third and Leinart, El Bambino Huey and Taint That A Cat in the fourth.

Winners (through Thursday): (previous day/meet total): 2/136. Money: (previous day/meet total): $11.80/$829.80. Total money bet: $1,016.
