A 9-month-old Canoga Park boy was discovered dead Monday night in a backyard swimming pool so murky that rescuers could not see beneath its surface, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.

The boy, whose name was not released, had been reported missing, and police were investigating how he got into the pool in the 8400 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Firefighters, called to the scene about 7 p.m., dived into the pool and found the infant after a brief search, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Two children drowned Saturday in Southland pools. A 2-year-old boy died after his parents found him floating in a backyard pool in Mandeville Canyon, and a 5-year-old boy from Santa Ana drowned in a community pool in Newport Beach.
