Wade, Payton Sit Out Practice With Illnesses
The Miami Heat practiced Monday without guards Dwyane Wade and Gary Payton because of illness.
Wade attended meetings before leaving to see a physician because of a flu-like virus he has been fighting since Friday.
“He’s fine. We sent him back to the doctor to get some more medication,” Heat Coach Pat Riley said. “Another checkup....We feel like he’ll be OK.”
Payton went home early with a migraine.

Joe Dumars, the Detroit Pistons’ president of basketball operations, hopes to re-sign unrestricted free-agent center Ben Wallace to keep the team’s nucleus intact to compete for next year’s NBA title.
“This window we have right now is not closed by any means, so you have to maximize that as much as possible,” Dumars said of the Pistons, who had an NBA-best 64-18 regular-season record but were eliminated by Miami in the Eastern Conference finals.
Dumars said he expects to have three or four new reserves next season. He also said Coach Flip Saunders will return for a second year.
