Share

After losing the first three starts of his career, Zap is on a roll for trainer Bobby Frankel.

The 4-year-old son of A.P. Indy has won three in a row and will bid for another in the fifth race today at Hollywood Park. The $58,000 allowance at 1 1/8 miles on turf is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $109,274.

Owned by breeders Bob and Janice McNair’s Stonerside Stable, Zap began his win streak on Feb. 20 at Santa Anita after finishing second in his California debut about a month earlier.

Zap won an allowance race in Arcadia on April 1, then scored again in his Hollywood Park debut, winning by a head as the 9-10 favorite going 1 1/4 miles on May 18.

Patrick Valenzuela, who began the week atop the jockey standings at Hollywood Park, has been aboard for all three of Zap’s victories and he has the mount again.

The field also includes Distorted, Stormin Away, Fort Dignity, who won by a half-length in his U.S. debut for trainer Neil Drysdale on May 21, Sunny Sky and Shimby.

Race of the day: Gold And Roses, who has been first or second in 14 of 19 starts, will seek his seventh lifetime win against 10 other New York breds in the $65,000 Ormsby today at Belmont Park. Norberto Arroyo Jr., who is scheduled to begin riding in California next week, has the mount on the 4-year-old Gold Token gelding for owner Henry Gregory and trainer Tom Bush in the one-mile race.

One for the road: Miss Norman cuts back in distance in her first start since being purchased and she did break her maiden sprinting, so beware in the eighth race today at Churchill Downs. John McKee will ride the 3-year-old Artax filly for owners Lewis Lakin and Clifford Grum and trainer Bob Holthus in the $54,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Exotically speaking: An early pick four using Shawklit Sundae in the first, Outofthe Blue Slew, Grey Misty and Sendero in the second, Oneida County and Missed Summer in the third and Cobalt Blue, Gran Tenor and Future Search in the fourth.
