Finley Joins Elite; Bonds Homers

Barry Bonds hit his 717th home run and Steve Finley led off the game with his 300th, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-4, Wednesday night at Phoenix to end a four-game losing streak.

It was Bonds’ first home run since June 5, a span of 10 at-bats. He sat out five games because of an abdominal strain.

Bonds narrowly missed a home run in the fifth inning, hitting a Claudio Vargas pitch a few feet below the top of the wall in center. Bonds was held to a single.

Finley, who has 316 steals, became the sixth member of the 300 homer-300 stolen base club, joining teammate Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonds, Willie Mays, Andre Dawson and Reggie Sanders.

Omar Vizquel was four for five with two doubles and four runs scored.

Arizona third baseman Chad Tracy was charged with three errors as the Diamondbacks lost for the eighth time in nine games.

Cincinnati 3, Milwaukee 0 -- Adam Dunn hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning and the Reds got an strong start from Elizardo Ramirez at Cincinnati to salvage the finale of a three-game series.

Ramirez struck out a career-high 10 and gave up five hits and one walk in eight innings.

Colorado 14, Washington 8 -- Jamey Carroll hit a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning and Garrett Atkins had four RBIs for the Rockies at Washington.

Colorado had 18 hits and the 22 combined runs were the most at RFK Stadium since the Nationals moved from Montreal last year.

Colorado’s Cory Sullivan became the eighth player in baseball history with four sacrifice bunts in game.

New York 9, Philadelphia 3 -- David Wright homered and Carlos Delgado drove in three runs to help the visiting Mets win their seventh straight.

Jose Reyes had four of the Mets’ 16 hits.

Pittsburgh 9, St. Louis 7 -- Jose Castillo homered and drove in four runs and Zach Duke was more effective at the plate than on the mound with three RBIs, leading the Pirates at Pittsburgh. Duke (5-6) gave up 10 hits and five runs in five innings.

Houston 5, Chicago 4 -- Roy Oswalt (6-3) returned from the 15-day disabled list to get his first win since May 3 and the Astros had 11 hits off Greg Maddux (7-6) at Chicago. Oswalt had been on the disabled list because of a strained back.

Florida 6, Atlanta 5 -- Pinch-runner Reggie Abercrombie scored from second for the Marlins on reliever Mike Remlinger’s throwing error to third base in the bottom of the 10th inning at Miami.
