Two of Nine Desert Jail Escapees Remain Free

Two inmates remained free Friday after escaping from an outdoor recreation area at the Blythe jail, authorities said.
Nine inmates originally fled the enclosed yard about 11 p.m. Thursday. Four were found within a half hour, one was apprehended early Friday and two more were found at a Palm Desert residence Friday afternoon, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Earl Quinata.
Deputies are still searching for Robert Carlos Cruz, 24, of Coachella, awaiting trial in an attempted murder case, and Renee Chavez, 23, of Desert Hot Springs, awaiting trial on charges of possessing stolen property.
