Kenny Rogers won his 200th game, Detroit set a club record with eight home runs and Mark Prior had one of the worst outings of his career.

The result was a 12-3 victory for the Tigers on Sunday in Chicago and more misery for the Cubs.

Chris Shelton and Brandon Inge each homered twice for Detroit. Prior, who sat out the first 2 1/2 months of the season because of a strain in his right shoulder, lasted only 3 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs, matching a career high.

Curtis Granderson led off the game with a home run for the first time in his career, Carlos Guillen hit a three-run shot and Shelton hit a two-run homer as the Tigers grabbed a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Vance Wilson knocked out Prior with a two-run drive in the fourth that made it 8-1.

The Cubs lost their sixth consecutive game.

Boston 10, Atlanta 7 -- Pinch-hitter Mike Lowell’s go-ahead, two-run double and Kevin Youkilis’ two-run home run highlighted the Red Sox’s six-run eighth inning and extended the Braves’ losing streak to seven games -- their longest in nearly 16 years.

The win gave the Red Sox, who had lost four in a row before coming to Atlanta, a one-game lead in the American League East over the New York Yankees.

Washington 3, New York Yankees 2 -- Ryan Zimmerman won the game with a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth for the host Nationals. The drive to left, the rookie third baseman’s 10th homer of the season, came on the 107th pitch from Chien-Ming Wang (7-3). Yankees Manager Joe Torre had left his starter in because of a beleaguered bullpen that had worked 12 innings over the preceding three days.

Chicago White Sox 8, Cincinnati 1 -- Jon Garland gave up four singles, pitching into the ninth, and hit the first homer by a White Sox pitcher in 35 years to cap a three-game sweep in Cincinnati. Garland’s two-run shot in the eighth against reliever Esteban Yan was his first career homer and the first by a White Sox pitcher since Steve Kealey’s on Sept. 6, 1971, against Minnesota.

Florida 4, Toronto 1 -- Dan Uggla had three hits and knocked in the go-ahead run to help the host Marlins beat Roy Halladay for their eighth straight win. Halladay (8-2) lost for the first time in 12 starts. He gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, and the Blue Jays were swept for the second time this season.

New York Mets 9, Baltimore 4 -- David Wright hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, Tom Glavine won his 10th game and the host Mets avoided a three-game sweep.

Ramon Castro homered and knocked in two runs for the Mets, who won the final eight games of a 9-1 trip before dropping the first two in this series against Baltimore.

Philadelphia 8, Tampa Bay 5 -- Ryan Howard homered and drove in four runs to help the host Phillies end a season-worst, six-game losing streak.

The win ended a five-game losing streak to the Devil Rays, who own a 10-5 mark against the Phillies since the series started in 1998.

Minnesota 8, Pittsburgh 2 -- The Twins turned two infield grounders and a Mike Redmond single into the decisive run in a four-run eighth inning that helped complete a three-game sweep in Pittsburgh.

With Justin Morneau adding a three-run double in the eighth, the Twins won their seventh in a row and ninth in 10 games.

Kansas City 7, Houston 4 -- Doug Mientkiewicz hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lift the visiting Royals, who blew a 4-1 lead but rallied against Astros reliever Chad Qualls (3-2) to win for the third time in nine games.

Texas 10, Arizona 7 -- Michael Young singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth and matched a career high with five hits, helping the host Rangers complete a three-game sweep.

Texas took a 7-6 lead into the eighth, but Shawn Green’s leadoff homer against Francisco Cordero tied the score.

Milwaukee 6, Cleveland 3 -- Carlos Lee’s three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Brewers at home and gave them a three-game sweep of the Indians, who have lost 10 of their last 13 games. It was Lee’s first career walk-off home run.

Seattle 5, San Francisco 1 -- Adrian Beltre homered and doubled in another run, and Jamie Moyer stymied Barry Bonds and the Giants in Seattle.

The Mariners swept the three-game series by keeping Bonds without a homer in 10 plate appearances after his home run Friday night.
