Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, Joe Crede and Juan Uribe homered and the White Sox put on another double-digit offensive display in a 13-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday at Chicago.

The White Sox scored 11 runs with 12 hits in the third inning during Tuesday night’s 20-6 victory that featured 24 hits. On Wednesday, they scored four in the first and five in the second to take control early and finished with 16 hits, four by Thome.

Cardinals starter Jason Marquis (9-5), who had won six straight decisions, was pounded for 13 runs and 14 hits in five innings, one night after the White Sox scored nine runs and had 10 hits off Mark Mulder in 2 1/3 innings. It was Marquis’ first loss since May 8.

Houston 5, Minnesota 3 -- Adam Everett had two doubles and two RBIs and Lance Berkman homered to help the host Astros end the Twins’ eight-game winning streak.

Roger Clemens, who re-signed with the Astros on May 31, will make his much-anticipated 2006 debut against the Twins today.

Oakland 3, Colorado 2 -- Nick Swisher hit two home runs, including one that tied the score in the ninth, and scored the winning run in the 11th on a single by Bobby Kielty at Denver.

Swisher was walked by Ray King (1-3) to lead off the 11th and was sacrificed to second by Mark Kotsay. After Eric Chavez walked, Keilty singled to left and Swisher slid under the tag of Yorvit Torrealba on outfielder Matt Holliday’s throw home.

Milwaukee 4, Detroit 3 -- Rickie Weeks’ two-run homer with two out in the seventh inning helped the host Brewers end the Tigers’ six-game winning streak.

Weeks’ seventh homer of the season was off reliever Joel Zumaya. Detroit starter Nate Robertson gave up three runs -- two earned -- in 6 2/3 innings before giving up a pinch-hit single to Chris Barnwell, his first major league hit. Zumaya (3-1) came in and gave up the home run.

Boston 9, Washington 3 -- Jon Lester struck out 10 in six innings in his third major league game and David Ortiz hit a grand slam at home for the Red Sox, who won their sixth straight. Lester, Boston’s top pitching prospect when he joined the team on June 10, gave up three hits and walked two.

San Diego 3, Texas 2 -- Pinch-runner Ben Johnson raced home from third with the go-ahead run on an error in the ninth inning for the Padres on the road.

The score was tied at 2-2 and San Diego had runners on first and second.

With Vinny Castilla batting, Akinori Otsuka threw a wild pitch that bounced off catcher Gerald Laird, who retrieved the ball up the third-base line and fired it to third trying to get Johnson. But Hank Blalock couldn’t come up with the throw and was charged with an error.

Baltimore 4, Florida 0 -- Erik Bedard took a one-hitter into the eighth at Baltimore, where the Orioles ended the Marlins’ nine-game winning streak.

The only Florida batter to reach base over the first seven innings was Alfredo Amezaga, who lined a clean single to center with one out in the fourth.

Kansas City 6, Pittsburgh 4 -- Mark Teahen’s tiebreaking two-run home run off Salomon Torres in the eighth inning lifted the Royals at Kansas City, Mo.

Teahen, whose error at third base had led to an unearned run, hit the first pitch from Torres (2-4) over the fence in right for his fourth home run. Emil Brown started the inning with a single.

Chicago Cubs 9, Cleveland 2 -- Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez had two RBIs apiece for the Cubs, who tagged C.C. Sabathia (5-4) for nine runs in 3 1/3 innings at Cleveland. Thunderstorms halted play in the top of the eighth, and the umpiring crew waited 1 hour 18 minutes before calling the game.

New York Yankees 5, Philadelphia 0 -- Jaret Wright teamed with four Yankees relievers on a three-hitter to win on the road.

Wright (4-4) gave up three hits, struck out a season-high six in five innings and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for New York, which has won two straight after losing eight of 11.

Tampa Bay 3, Arizona 2 -- Rookie James Shields gave up four hits in seven innings and Rocco Baldelli had a run-scoring double to help the Devil Rays win at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Toronto 6, Atlanta 3 -- Lyle Overbay had two RBIs in the Blue Jays’ four-run third inning in Atlanta, giving the Braves a nine-game losing streak, their longest since opening the 1988 season with 10 straight losses.
