Kiprusoff Is All Flames Need in Win

Miikka Kiprusoff made 39 saves for his league-leading eighth shutout, and the Calgary Flames hung on for a 1-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night at Calgary, Canada.

Daymond Langkow’s 19th goal, at 15:40 of the first period, was all the scoring Kiprusoff would need as the Finnish goalie tied the Stars’ Marty Turco for the league lead in wins with 32.

Turco finished with 23 saves.

The Flames maintained their one-point lead over Colorado atop the Northwest Division.

Calgary killed off all seven power plays, extending their streak to 37 in a row the last six games.

Dallas’ three-game winning streak ended, and it will complete a four-game trip Saturday night at Vancouver.

San Jose 5, Edmonton 2 -- Joe Thornton scored the tiebreaking goal and got his NHL-leading 65th assist, and the Sharks began a six-game homestand with a victory over the Oilers.

San Jose spoiled the debut of new Edmonton goalie Dwayne Roloson with its fourth home victory in a row. Roloson stopped 26 shots, but the Oiler defense lapsed in front of him several times.

Nashville 3, Vancouver 2 -- Steve Sullivan tied the score twice in the third period, and David Legwand scored six seconds into overtime, lifting the Predators over the Canucks at Vancouver, Canada.

Tomas Vokoun made 23 saves as the fourth-place Predators moved five points ahead of the Canucks in the Western Conference.

Columbus 5, Phoenix 4 -- Rick Nash had a goal and an assist to help the Blue Jackets break out of their scoring slump at Columbus, Ohio.

Buffalo 8, Tampa Bay 5 -- Derek Roy recorded his second career hat trick, J.P. Dumont had two goals, and Thomas Vanek broke a third-period tie at Buffalo, N.Y., to help the Sabres to their fourth victory in a row.

Colorado 2, Chicago 1 -- Peter Budaj made 26 saves, Pierre Turgeon and Antti Laaksonen scored at Chicago, and the Avalanche handed the Blackhawks their sixth loss in eight games.

Montreal 3, Boston 0 --Cristobal Huet made 28 saves at Boston for his second consecutive shutout over the Bruins and his fourth of the season.
