Report: Huggins Is Kansas State Coach

Bob Huggins accepted an offer to become the coach at Kansas State, the Kansas City Star reported. The newspaper said a news conference was expected to be held today.

Huggins, forced out last August after 16 years as Cincinnati’s coach, will replace Jim Wooldridge.

Huggins, 52, accepted a $3 million buyout after a public squabble with new Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher.

In the National Invitation Tournament:

Louisville 74, Missouri State 56 -- Taquan Dean had 26 points to lead the Cardinals to the NIT semifinals for the first time in 21 years with a victory over visiting Missouri State.

Louisville (21-12) will play the winner of tonight’s quarterfinal between Cincinnati and South Carolina on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Michigan and Old Dominion will play in the other semifinal.

Kellen Easley led Missouri State (22-9) with 13 points.

Michigan 71, Miami 65 -- Daniel Horton scored 19 points to lead the Wolverines (21-10) past the Hurricanes (18-16) at Ann Arbor, Mich. Guillermo Diaz scored 20 points for Miami (18-16).

Old Dominion 61, Hofstra 51 -- Isaiah Hunter scored a career-high 29 points at Hempstead, N.Y., and the Monarchs (24-9) ended the Pride’s 21-game home winning streak. Antoine Agudio scored 13 points for Hofstra (26-7).

Cincinnati received permission from George Washington to interview Coach Karl Hobbs about the Bearcats’ opening.

Northern Iowa promoted associate coach Ben Jacobson, 35, to coach, replacing Greg McDermott.... San Diego State guard Brandon Heath, the Mountain West Conference player of the year, made himself available for the NBA draft.... Missouri guard Thomas Gardner will skip his senior year and make himself available for the NBA draft.
