There was a time long ago when Teemu Selanne cared a great deal about individual accomplishments.

As the years have passed, statistics have taken on less importance for the 35-year-old winger. Upon reaching 30 goals for the eighth time in his career, Selanne acknowledged the achievement but said he doesn’t focus on numbers.

“The biggest thing for me is to try to play well and enjoy this game,” Selanne said Saturday. “Usually those things just happen. You don’t really think about those things.

“But of course, it’s nice to do that.”

Selanne scored twice in Friday’s victory over Nashville and added two goals Saturday against Phoenix. The last time the 13-year veteran topped 30 goals was in 2000-01, when he split the season between the Ducks and San Jose.

Despite undergoing reconstructive knee surgery last summer, Selanne said he had no doubt that he could put up big numbers again as long as his knee was free of pain.

“I know what I can do when I’m healthy,” said Selanne, who tied Brian Bellows for 39th on the all-time list with 485 goals.

Center Andy McDonald suffered a muscle cramp in his right leg in the second period after being hit by Phoenix defenseman Derek Morris. McDonald limped off the ice but returned for his next shift and assisted Francois Beauchemin’s third-period goal.

There is a chance the leg could stiffen as the Ducks fly to Colorado, where they’ll play Tuesday. “It’s just a matter of keeping it loose,” said McDonald, second on the team with 68 points.
