Hollywood Park will have its own stakes race for 3-year-olds today -- the $150,000 Lazaro Barrera Memorial, a Grade II at seven furlongs.

Named in honor of the Hall of Fame trainer of Affirmed, racing’s last Triple Crown winner, the Barrera will be the ninth of 10 races on a card starting at 12:20 p.m., one hour earlier than normal.

Corazondelcampeon, a son of Comic Strip trained by David La Croix for owner-breeder Scott Merrell, will be looking for his second stakes win of the Hollywood Park season, but the horse is also entered in the Will Rogers Stakes on Sunday.

In his turf debut in the Harry Henson on April 28, Corazondelcampeon won by nearly three lengths at odds of almost 14-1.

The Florida-bred is equally at home on dirt, winning his only start over the Hollywood Park main track by six lengths in a maiden race on May 29 of last year.

The co-high-weight with Corazondelcampeon at 120 pounds is Arson Squad, who has won two of three, including an upset of Da Stoops in the San Pedro on April 9 at Santa Anita.

The California Horse Racing Board has temporarily waived rules on the coupling of horses.

Under the conditions of the waiver, which runs through the end of current meets at Bay Meadows and Hollywood Park, there must be at least five wagering interests in any one race.

The main impetus behind the change, which could become permanent, is to increase handle and to protect a bettor from being stuck with the less attractive part of an entry should there be a late scratch.

There is an example of the change in today’s first race at Hollywood Park.

Owner Bob Bone will start Quintara and Ms. Purr in the $25,000 claimer for fillies and mares, but they will not be coupled as an entry while racing for different trainers.
