Violence May Put an End to City’s Orange Festival
City officials will consider eliminating the annual Orange Blossom Festival because of violence during the street fair last weekend.
Police made three arrests after a fight Saturday night sent one person to the hospital, and a woman was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and battery on an officer.
The proposed action, to be discussed at a special meeting tonight, would apply to the festival and weekly outdoor market nights run by the Orange Blossom Festival Assn. The move would save the city about $500,000 annually, according to a City Council memo.
