Williamson Pitches Kennedy Past Chatsworth, 4-2

There’s no sweeter feeling than redemption, and that’s what left-hander Fabian Williamson of Granada Hills Kennedy experienced Saturday, throwing a six-hitter as the Golden Cougars upset top-seeded Chatsworth, 4-2, to win their record-tying seventh City Section championship at Dodger Stadium.

Two years ago as a sophomore, Williamson couldn’t protect a 7-0 lead and lost in the City semifinals to Chatsworth, 10-7. Saturday, he struck out six and walked one.

“We talked about finishing,” Coach Manny Alvarado said. “Finishing at-bats, finishing games, finishing the season. I guess he learned to finish.”

Third-seeded Kennedy (25-10), the Valley Mission League champion, had no hits through five innings against Chatsworth right-hander Josh Ravin, who struck out the first five batters he faced. But Ravin walked six and started to falter in the sixth.

Jacob Miranda and Nestor Macias led off the inning with singles. After a ground out, Brandon Ashford walked to load the bases. Then sophomores Carlos Gonzalez and Chris Ornelas each contributed two-run doubles, giving Kennedy a 4-1 lead.

Matt Dominguez hit a home run to left in the bottom of the sixth inning for Chatsworth (30-3), his second home run in Dodger Stadium in two years.

Williamson, though, finished with a one-two-three seventh, giving Alvarado his fifth City championship as coach.

“We’ve got [titles] in three decades, and I’m not going anywhere,” Alvarado said.
