A 95-year-old Tarzana man and his 82-year-old female companion were killed Sunday when their car pulled out of a restaurant parking lot into traffic in Granada Hills and was sideswiped by a coupe, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash occurred around noon in the 17000 block of Devonshire Street.

The driver of the coupe was a 21-year-old Northridge man, who suffered a knee injury and minor contusions and was in fair condition, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it believed the elderly driver was at fault in the crash, though its investigation was continuing. He suffered massive trauma and was declared dead at the scene.

His passenger, identified as Pearl Rich of Tarzana, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she died of head and chest trauma.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said it could not release the victims’ names Sunday night because it had not located their next of kin.
