Southern Methodist wins, 22-9

Justin Willis passed for 148 yards and one touchdown and linebacker Tony Hawkins returned an interception for another score Tuesday night as Southern Methodist defeated Alabama Birmingham, 22-9, in a Conference USA game at Dallas.

The Mustangs, 5-4 overall, 3-2 in conference, have won six consecutive home games dating to last season. The Blazers are 3-6 and 2-3.
