At least three people died and two others were critically injured Saturday when their vehicle jumped a curb and crashed into a fire hydrant in an unincorporated area near Carson, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The high-speed, singlevehicle crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. on Wilmington Avenue south of Victoria Street, said CHP Officer Alex Gonzalez.

The two critically injured passengers were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, he said.
