A 79-year-old woman was bound, gagged and raped early Saturday, allegedly by a man she employed for odd jobs around her Arleta home, police said.
The woman identified her attacker as Johnny Aguilar Irias, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim told police that she surprised an intruder about 3 a.m. after hearing a noise in the back of her residence in the 10000 block of Stanwin Avenue.
She said she recognized the intruder as her sometime handyman. The intruder allegedly threatened the woman with scissors, tied her up and raped her before leaving with unspecified property, Lopez said.
Police asked the public for help in finding the assailant, who is described as a Latino in his 20s with a ponytail, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds.
