Gomez back on local circuit

Jockey Garrett Gomez, who has been riding with great success primarily in New York and Kentucky, is back at Santa Anita and is expected to remain on this circuit through the winter.

Gomez, whose agent Ron Anderson incidentally will be also representing Richard Migliore when the veteran begins riding at Hollywood Park next month, has four mounts on today’s card as the final week of the Oak Tree meet begins.

One of those four is Lucky For Me, a 4-year-old Lucky Roberto filly who was a win machine in her native Argentina. She won four of five starts in South America, including a Group III in her most recent start on June 10. She is owned by Harry Lebowitz and trained by Jason Orman and will be facing five other fillies and mares in the second, a $47,000 allowance at one mile.

The other mounts for Gomez are Acolyte, who will be making his first start for trainer Mark Glatt, in the third, Smooth Sis in the sixth and Fletchers Cove in the seventh.

A 3-year-old daughter of Flame Thrower owned by breeder Gary Garber and trained by Bob Baffert, Fletchers Cove has earned both of her wins at Santa Anita. She will have 10 opponents in the $42,000 optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Race of the day: Tiffany Twisted, who has won two in a row at Delaware Park, will make her first start at Keeneland today in the eighth race. Robby Albarado will ride the 3-year-old Thunder Gulch filly for owner-breeders William Wilmot and Joan Taylor in the $54,000 allowance at 1 1/2 miles on the turf. In nine previous races on the grass, Tiffany Twisted has only one win, but has been on the board on five other occasions. Keeneland will be the seventh different track at which she has run; Delaware, Gulfstream Park, Saratoga, Calder, Philadelphia Park and Colonial Downs are the others.

One for the road: On Board Again bids for his third win in five starts and should get a good trip pressing the pace in the $100,000 Discovery Handicap, the opening day feature at Aqueduct. Javier Castellano will ride the 3-year-old son of Awesome Again for owner-breeder Frank Stronach and trainer Bobby Frankel in the Grade III at 1 1/8 miles.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Velvet Moonlite in the sixth, Is It A Trick, Da Svedonya, Off The Richter and Fletchers Cove in the seventh and Key Lime Pie, Little Teaser and Tricky Viviana in the eighth.
