Red Wings get past Stars, 4-3

Defenseman Niklas Lidstrom scored his first two goals of the season to help the Detroit Red Wings hand the Dallas Stars their first home loss of the season, 4-3, on Friday night.

Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk had goals, and Dominik Hasek stopped 17 shots for the Red Wings (5-4-1). Mike Modano had two power-play goals for Dallas (8-2-0).

Despite the loss, Dallas still matched the 1996-97 team for the best start in franchise history.

Vancouver 3, Washington 2 -- Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison scored shootout goals and Roberto Luongo stopped Matt Pettinger and Alexander Ovechkin to give the host Canucks their fourth win in five games. Ovechkin had Luongo down but hit the post.
