Documenting 9/11’s path

In the mid-’70s, ABC’s then Department of Broadcast Standards and Practices had problems with a children’s special, “The Toothpaste Millionaire” [“ABC Alters 9/11 Show Under Pressure,” Sept. 7]. It was the story of an 11-year-old boy who made toothpaste more cheaply than the major brands. For balance, ABC insisted a scene be included in which a toothpaste manufacturer explained why its toothpaste was so much more expensive.

ABC has aired a docudrama, “The Path to 9/11.” It seems that the film includes many misrepresentations of fact harmful to the Democrats.

You would hope ABC would have as much at stake in telling a balanced story about “a pivotal moment in our history” as they once did about toothpaste.

It is quite interesting to watch the “left’s” reactions to an unfavorable story, since the “left” has been typically on the “dishing-out” end of popular media history presentations.

Examining how and if a media outlet caves in under pressure will be noteworthy. What ideological groups they cave in to, and whom they stand up to will be even more significant.
