Bo Martin intercepted quarterback Kerry Meier’s pass in the end zone on the first possession of the second overtime, and Jalen Parmele scored on a 25-yard run on the next play to give Toledo a 37-31 victory over Kansas on Friday night at Toledo, Ohio.

Parmele ran up the middle before cutting right and racing into the end zone to give Toledo its first victory in three games. In the Rockets’ opener, they fell, 45-43, in three overtimes at Iowa State -- another Big 12 team.

Kansas has won only six road games in the last 10 years and Toledo has won 34 of its last 36 home games.

The Jayhawks had five turnovers and the Rockets, who did not turn the ball over, had only one first down in the second half and in the overtimes.

The Rockets went on offense first in the initial overtime and drove to the eight, but two penalties forced the Rockets out of field-goal range. A long pass into the end zone on fourth down fell incomplete.

Kansas (2-1), which routed Toledo, 63-14, in 2004 at Lawrence, Kan., took over and Jon Cornish promptly fumbled the handoff on the first play, forcing a second overtime.

Alabama has stopped its recruitment of a prep player who faces armed robbery charges, the Birmingham News reported.

Pat Lazear, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from Maryland, was arrested this spring and accused of driving the getaway car in a felony robbery.

Lazear had 20 Division I-A scholarship offers and had narrowed his choices to Alabama and Ohio State, the Washington Post reported.

Three former Delaware football players charged with breaking into another player’s apartment and stealing liquid steroids and other items pleaded guilty a few days before their trial was to begin.

Demetrice Alexander and Danny Jones pleaded guilty Thursday to possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of second-degree robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and second-degree conspiracy, attorney general Carl Danberg said Friday in Dover. A third player, Jeffrey Robinson, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree robbery and two counts of second-degree conspiracy.

A fourth defendant, Tyrone Heggins, who was a Delaware student but not a football player, pleaded guilty to the same charges as Alexander and Jones.
