From Times Wire Reports

Four more dead birds have tested positive for West Nile virus, bringing the number this year to 44, Ventura County health officials said Thursday.

Randy Smith, a supervising environmental health specialist, said three of the wild birds were found in Simi Valley and one in Camarillo between Sept. 12 and Sept. 19.

A state lab confirmed the results Thursday morning.

Mosquitoes, which feed on infected birds, transmit the disease to animals and humans. Three county residents have tested positive for the virus.
