Arenas lost for the season

Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas had surgery Thursday for a left knee injury that will sideline him for two to three months, essentially ending his season.

Arenas, averaging 28.4 points and six assists, was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and had arthroscopic surgery in Washington. He was hurt in the first quarter Wednesday when the Charlotte Bobcats’ Gerald Wallace fell into his knee.

Antonio Daniels will replace Arenas.

New Orleans forward Desmond Mason might sit out the rest of the season after suffering a broken nose and cheekbone when he took an elbow from Seattle’s Chris Wilcox on Wednesday.

Las Vegas officials made no offer to restrict betting on NBA teams in a proposal for a franchise sent to Commissioner David Stern.... Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest’s court hearing on misdemeanor domestic battery charges was postponed until April 26 in Auburn, Calif. He was charged March 21 in the March 5 incident at his home and has pleaded not guilty.
