Loss to Spurs hurts Warriors’ chances

Tim Duncan scored 28 points, Manu Ginobili had 25, and the San Antonio Spurs beat Golden State, 112-99, Saturday night at San Antonio to hand the Warriors a setback in their drive for a playoff spot.

The Warriors, who had won four in a row, entered the game trailing the Clippers by one game for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Spurs (55-21) have won 19 consecutive games at home against the Warriors, a streak that dates to Feb. 14, 1997. They are 20-3 since the All-Star break.

Golden State (37-40) also squandered a chance to get to one game below .500 for the first time since it was 19-20 on Jan. 15. The Warriors were nine games below .500 on March 4 after going 1-6 after the All-Star break.

New Jersey 120, Washington 114 -- Vince Carter and Jason Kidd became the first teammates with triple-doubles in the same game since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in 1989, in leading the Nets in overtime at East Rutherford, N.J.

Carter matched his season high with 46 points, and had a season-high 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Kidd tied a career high with 16 rebounds, equaled his season high with 18 assists and made a late free throw to finish with 10 points.

Jordan had 41 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, and Pippen had 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in a 126-121 win over the Clippers on Jan. 3, 1989.

Indiana 105, Boston 98 -- The win at Indianapolis kept the Pacers within one game of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference behind Orlando, which beat Memphis. The Celtics had only eight players available.

New Orleans 96, Minnesota 94 -- Kevin Garnett scored five of his 13 points in the final minute at Minneapolis, including a three-point basket with 1.8 seconds to play to cut the Hornets’ lead to 95-94. Chris Paul then made a free throw, and Craig Smith’s shot from just inside midcourt hit off the side of the rim at the buzzer.

Orlando 116, Memphis 89 -- The Magic’s starting five, led by Dwight Howard’s 31 points on 10-for-13 shooting, made 25 of 32 shots at Orlando, Fla. The Grizzlies were led by former Laker Chucky Atkins, who had 18 points and five assists.

New York 118, Milwaukee 113 -- Eddy Curry scored a career-high 43 points, including his first three-point basket of the season to force overtime at Milwaukee, and the Knicks ended a four-game losing streak.

Dallas 86, Portland 74 -- The victory at Dallas means the Mavericks need one more win or a loss by Phoenix to clinch the No. 1 seeding in the Western Conference. The Suns play the Lakers at Staples Center today, then the Mavericks play Monday night at home against the Clippers.

Seattle 106, Utah 103 -- Rashard Lewis scored 28 of his 35 points in the second half and the SuperSonics rallied from a 22-point deficit at Salt Lake City. Seattle made six of seven three-point shots in the fourth quarter, when it outscored Utah, 39-16, to hand the Jazz its third consecutive loss.

SuperSonics guard Ray Allen underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in both of his ankles. He will be in a walking boot for three to four weeks and then begin rehabilitation, the team said in a news release. The typical recovery period is two to three months, the team said.
