The New York Islanders earned the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, beating the New Jersey Devils, 3-2, in a shootout Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., to complete a sweep of their final four games.

The win triggered a wild on-ice celebration by the Islanders, seemingly out of the Stanley Cup hunt one week ago. They regrouped in front of third-string goalie Wade Dubielewicz to edge the Toronto Maple Leafs by a point for the last berth on the final day of the regular season.

Dallas 3, Chicago 2 -- Mike Modano scored his 507th goal with 3:49 left to extend his record for U.S.-born players and the Stars beat the visiting Blackhawks.

Philadelphia 4, Buffalo 3 -- Despite the win, the host Flyers finished with the most losses and fewest points in their 40-year history (22-48-12, 56 points).

Phoenix 3, Vancouver 1 -- Jeremy Roenick, who will decide this summer whether to retire, scored an empty-net goal with 21.2 seconds left as the Coyotes beat the visiting Canucks.

Colorado 6, Calgary 3 -- Joe Sakic scored at Denver, giving him 100 points for the first time since 2001. It was the first time in the Avalanche’s 11 seasons that the team played a game with the playoffs out of their grasp.
