Sheriff’s deputies discovered two indoor marijuana growing operations early Wednesday at homes in San Bernardino County.

Two men were detained after deputies executed search warrants at the homes on Buckthorne Street and Atsina Road in Phelan. One of the men was found hiding in an attic.

Authorities have not identified either man.

The two operations are believed to be connected and are the latest in a string of busts in Southern California, said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

“Everybody seems to be finding these indoor grows,” Miller said.

Deputies found more than $1-million worth of marijuana plants at the Buckthorne house and about $280,000 worth at the Atsina home. The marijuana at both homes was being grown with special techniques that use indoor lights and nutrient-filled liquids, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Department urged the public to notify authorities if they see any suspicious activity that could signal an indoor marijuana operation, including covered windows, a garage door that never opens or an air conditioner that stays on constantly.

The bust comes on the heels of about a dozen pot houses discovered in the San Gabriel Valley in the past month. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators believe there are many more indoor marijuana farms in the area and are urging residents to be more vigilant about spotting the homes.
