* Seattle 4, at Oakland 2: Jose Lopez hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning and the Mariners beat the A’s for the fourth time in five meetings. The Mariners went 2-17 against Oakland last season. Richie Sexson hit an RBI double in the seventh that ended an 0-for-20 streak, giving Seattle an unearned insurance run.

* Boston 5, at Baltimore 2: Wily Mo Pena hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to help Josh Beckett become the majors’ first five-game winner. Boston trailed, 2-1, before Pena hit a 430-foot shot to center off Chris Ray. Pena was batting .120, including one for 20 against right-handers. Despite giving up five doubles, Beckett became the 11th Red Sox pitcher to win his first five starts in a season. He joins a list that includes Babe Ruth, Roger Clemens, Lefty Grove and Pedro Martinez.

* at Minnesota 1, Kansas City 0: Mike Redmond hit a run-scoring single in the 11th inning and the Twins ended a four-game losing streak. The Royals wasted seven shutout innings from Zack Greinke, who spent most of last year in the minors after he underwent counseling for social anxiety. Boof Bonser walked seven in five innings for the Twins.

* at Cleveland 9, Texas 4: Paul Byrd got the win for Cleveland despite giving up two homers to Sammy Sosa, and the Indians got their fifth consecutive victory. The Rangers went two for 16 with runners in scoring position.

* Toronto 6, at New York 0: The last-place Yankees managed only four singles and suffered their sixth consecutive loss.

* Detroit at Chicago, ppd., rain: No makeup date has been announced.

* at Angels 11, Tampa Bay 3: Bartolo Colon struck out 11 and Vladimir Guerrero homered during a five-run first inning.
