A lot is expected of Dale Earnhardt Jr., as he follows in his father’s profession.

Though wildly popular with fans, the 32-year-old Earnhardt Jr., in his eighth season in Cup, has yet to match even one of Earnhardt Sr.’s seven championships in NASCAR’s top series.

He’s off to an unlucky start to 2007, running considerably better than what his finishes would indicate because of crashes and mechanical problems. But Junior, 15th in the points, remains optimistic and insists he feels no pressure to win a title.

“Probably, in a lot of people’s eyes, [winning the championship] would help validate my career,” Earnhardt said. “But I won’t carry any burden with me if I don’t. As a driver, I come in here and I compete. Winning the championship is the ultimate goal, and I go as hard as I can for it.”
