Barry Bonds hit the 742nd home run of his career.

Scott Hairston hit his 14th, and it lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-4 victory over Bonds and the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night at Phoenix.

Hairston, a pinch-hitter, hit reliever Vinnie Chulk’s first pitch 418 feet into the left-field seats with two runners on to give the Diamondbacks a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning.

Chulk (0-1) and Jack Taschner couldn’t protect a 4-1 lead for starter Matt Cain, who gave up one hit and one run in six innings.

Dustin Nippert (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings. Jose Valverde got his 10th save.

It was Bonds’ eighth home run of the season and his third against Edgar Gonzalez.
