An Irvine man was convicted Tuesday of killing a mother of three by crashing into her motorcycle while speeding drunk in 2003.

Jonathan Barber, 28, faces a maximum penalty of life in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 14.

Barber was driving more than 100 mph on Irvine Boulevard with a blood-alcohol level well over the legal limit when he struck the motorcycle driven by Carla Olsen, a 43-year-old professor who was thrown onto the road.

Barber, whose license had been suspended, fled on foot and was arrested while trying to hitchhike.
