* San Diego 4, at St. Louis 0: Jake Peavy (12-5) extended his scoreless streak to 19 innings, and the Padres got their major league-leading 16th shutout of the season. Peavy (12-5) gave up three hits in six innings, struck out five and walked two, improving to 6-0 with a NL-best 0.89 earned-run average in nine road starts. Josh Bard hit a go-ahead single in the seventh off Anthony Reyes (1-12).

* at Philadelphia 11, Florida 1: Ryan Howard homered twice to back the Phillies’ Jamie Moyer (10-6). Moyer, a 44-year-old left-hander, retired 13 straight batters at one point and won his third straight decision. Moyer also improved to 6-0 in six career starts against the Marlins.

* Atlanta 7, at New York 3: Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and Matt Diaz had a solo shot to lead the Braves to their seventh victory over the Mets in 10 meetings this season. The second-place Braves also moved to within 3 1/2 games of the Mets in the NL East.

* at Houston 5, Chicago 2: Craig Biggio drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run sixth inning for the Astros to send the Cubs to their third straight loss. The hit was Biggio’s 3,023rd, tying him with Lou Brock for 22nd on the all-time list.

* at Colorado 11, Milwaukee 4: Todd Helton hit two home runs and the Rockies handed the Brewers their third straight loss while moving into a third-place tie in the NL West. Milwaukee’s Chris Capuano (5-9) took the loss, his ninth in a row.

* Pittsburgh 8, at Arizona 3: Tom Gorzelanny (10-6) struck out a career-high nine in seven innings to lead the Pirates. Jack Wilson doubled twice for the Pirates. Justin Upton fell a single shy of the cycle in his Arizona home debut.

* Washington 8, at San Francisco 6: Felipe Lopez hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning for the Nationals.

* at Cincinnati 4, Dodgers 0: The Reds’ Ken Griffey Jr. played on despite limping from an awkward step in the third inning.
