The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday put six-time Pro Bowl fullback Mike Alstott on injured reserve because of a neck problem, ending his season and possibly his career.

Alstott said the injury is not related to a career-threatening injury that required surgery in 2003.

“It is what it is. The facts are the facts. I can’t put on the helmet and jersey this year,” the 33-year-old Alstott said.

Chicago Bears fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo said he might sue the maker of an over-the-counter supplement after the NFL suspended him for the first four regular-season games without pay for violating the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Browns linebacker Willie McGinest was scheduled to have back surgery and will sit out at least six weeks, another blow to a Cleveland team devastated by injuries the last few seasons.

Rookie receiver Calvin Johnson caught two passes for 45 yards late in the first half to set up a score, and the Detroit Lions rallied late to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 27-26, in an exhibition in Detroit. . . . Tony Romo completed 10 of 11 passes and led two scoring drives as the Dallas Cowboys beat the Indianapolis Colts, 23-10, in Dallas.
