HIT AND MISS
Hit: Two hours and 20 minutes before Tiger Woods began his round, Simon Dyson began his. And 64 shots later, Dyson ended it, moving from a tie for 44th into a tie for sixth. Dyson, 29, from England, and in his first PGA Championship, didn’t touch a club for two weeks before getting ready for Southern Hills.
Miss: Corey Pavin was penalized three strokes at the par-three sixth hole and took an eight on his way to a nine-over-par 79. Pavin’s caddie, Eric Schwarz, moved a bunker rake while Pavin’s ball was in motion and the ball rolled in the water. Pavin was penalized two strokes under the obstruction rule (the rake is a movable obstruction and not the equipment of the player) and one shot under the water hazard rule.
