at Cincinnati 9, Atlanta 7 (12 innings): Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning to give the Reds a third consecutive victory. Mark Teixeira homered and Chipper Jones matched a career high with five runs batted in for the Braves, who fell three games behind San Diego, the National League wild-card leader.

at San Francisco 4, Chicago 1: Matt Cain outpitched and even outslugged opposing starter Carlos Zambrano, shutting down the Cubs for seven innings and hitting his second career home run. Cain (6-13) has won three of his last four starts.

Florida 11, at St. Louis 3: Josh Willingham homered twice, including a grand slam in the third inning, helping the Marlins end an eight-game losing streak. Albert Pujols was hitless in three at-bats, ending his streak of hitting a homer in a career-best five consecutive games.
