at San Diego 6, Arizona 4: Mike Cameron homered to start a four-run rally off reigning NL Cy Young winner Brandon Webb in the sixth inning and the Padres pulled within one game of the division-leading Diamondbacks. Webb (14-9) gave up a season-high six-earned runs in 5 1/3 innings and had his six-game winning streak end. It was his shortest outing since June 22, when he lasted five innings in a 7-1 loss to Baltimore.

at Pittsburgh 6-3, Cincinnati 4-2: Freddy Sanchez drove in five runs in the opener, then tripled and scored the winning run in the eighth inning of the second game to give the Pirates a doubleheader sweep. The Pirates are 17-10 in August, their most wins in a month since they went 17-10 in May 2004.

at Florida 4, Atlanta 3 (11 innings): After John Smoltz fell behind early and the Braves rallied on Chipper Jones’ two-run homer, Alejandro De Aza’s 11th-inning sacrifice fly gave the Marlins the win. Atlanta struck out 19 times as the Marlins -- who are tied for the worst record in the National League -- won for only the second time in 14 games.
