* at Philadelphia 3, New York 2: The Mets’ Marlon Anderson was ruled out on a game-ending interference call at second base in the ninth inning, negating a possible tying run and moving the Phillies to within three games of NL East-leading New York. With runners on the corner and one out, Anderson made a rough slide at Tadahito Iguchi outside the line and knocked the second baseman down as he threw to first following a slow roller by pinch-hitter Shawn Green. It was ruled interference and a double play, ending the game.

* Milwaukee 6, at Chicago 1: Ben Sheets (11-4) came off the disabled list to win his first game since June 30, and Ryan Braun hit a bases-loaded double in a four-run seventh inning. The Brewers moved to within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Cubs in the NL Central.

* at Houston 7, St. Louis 0: Roy Oswalt (14-6) gave up four hits and struck out nine in seven dominant innings on his 30th birthday to help the Astros to their first victory since Cecil Cooper replaced Phil Garner as manager Monday. Lance Berkman and Luke Scott hit solo home runs.

* Atlanta 7, at Florida 4: Matt Diaz homered twice and the Braves beat Dontrelle Willis (8-14) to salvaged a win at the end of a disappointing 4-6 trip. Atlanta rookie Yunel Escobar homered leading off the first inning for the first time, and he scored three times. Willis has won only once in his last 17 starts.

* Cincinnati 8, at Pittsburgh 0: Aaron Harang threw a two-hitter for his fourth career shutout and Ken Griffey Jr. and Brandon Phillips homered for the Reds. Alex Gonzalez and Javier Valentin had three hits apiece for the Reds.

* Colorado 8, at San Francisco 0: Jeff Francis (14-6) pitched a six-hitter for his second career shutout, Garrett Atkins homered twice and the Rockies avoided a three-game sweep. Noah Lowry (14-8) lost for the first time since July 15.

* at San Diego 3, Arizona 1: Winning pitcher Greg Maddux has gone 38 innings in his last six starts without walking a batter.

* at Dodgers 10, Washington 9, 12 innings: The Nationals lost their sixth in a row by blowing a five-run lead.
