Teen shot, hurt in attack near school
A 15-year-old Hollywood High School student was shot across the street from campus as classes began Monday, authorities said.
The student was on the northeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue about 7:30 a.m. when an unidentified person shot him in the leg, said Sgt. Todd Trulock of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
Witnesses reported that the victim was arguing with the shooter when the suspect pulled a small handgun and fired one or two shots into the victim’s thigh, Trulock said. Police did not recover a weapon at the scene.
The victim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Police increased patrols around the school Monday, and crisis teams were available to students.
