Mishap spills oil into dry creek bed
About 33,000 gallons of oil leaked into a dry creek bed in Santa Barbara County on Friday, oozing about half a mile before it was stopped, officials said.
The spill originated at a Greka Energy Co. oil processing plant about five miles northeast of Los Alamos, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Plant officials told authorities that a pump and an alarm had failed. The cleanup will take weeks, authorities said. The county has ordered the plant temporarily shut.
