Two members of an animal rescue organization in Long Beach have been sentenced after their convictions on animal cruelty charges.

Alexia Selma Tiraki-Kryklund was sentenced Thursday to 16 months in state prison, and Gloria Ramos was sentenced to a year in jail, a prosecutor said.

A defense motion to grant the women bail while their convictions are appealed was denied by the judge.

The women, who ran the Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue group, were convicted earlier this month of felony animal cruelty charges. Nearly 300 sick dogs and cats were found last year in the company’s warehouse after a police officer responding to an alarm smelled a foul odor.

Prosecutors say most of the animals were emaciated and covered in feces, and at least one had to be euthanized.
