Wade scores 48, but the Heat still loses
MIAMI -- Even a 48-point game by Dwyane Wade wasn’t enough for the Miami Heat to beat the Orlando Magic.
Dwight Howard had 29 points and 21 rebounds, Hedo Turkoglu capped his 22-point night by making a three-point shot with 11 seconds left and the Magic beat the Heat, 121-114, in overtime Friday night -- giving Coach Stan Van Gundy a victory in his return to South Florida.
“I am just happy to walk out of here with a win,” said Van Gundy, Pat Riley’s former protege who resigned as Heat coach in December 2005 and hadn’t been back for a game before Friday night.
Wade matched a career high with his 48 points, 20 coming in the fourth quarter and all of them in regulation for Miami, which fell to 8-22.
Miami’s Daequan Cook sent the game to overtime with a long three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left in regulation.
Shaquille O’Neal missed his first game of the season because of a sore hip.
