That sweet spin

Your errands are about to get a bit more chic: Target’s collection of Loeffler Randall shoes and handbags lands in stores today. The retailer’s latest effort at bringing fashion to the masses sees designer Jessie Randall’s spin on the simple styles that have made her a rising star among the fashion flock.

Randall, who won the Council of Fashion Designers of America Swarovski Award for Accessory Design last June, has created sugar-sweet wares that pack the sophistication of her high-end line into a nice little under-$50 package. Randall references her design signatures in a subtle way: A rosette adorns the flap of a gold metallic mini clutch ($19.99) after showing up on a belt in Loeffler Randall’s fall collection; Peep-Toe Flats ($29.99), made from the same metallic-flecked linen as the clutch, are trimmed with a synthetic python that resembles the reptile-embossed leather used on Randall’s $375 Mod Flats.

Ladies looking to lug more than Friday night party essentials will want to check out the slouchy, brown Crinkle Tote ($39.99). But with too-short straps that don’t adjust, the armpit fit is way too snug.

Although original Loeffler Randall pieces are made of leather that feels like melted Land O’Lakes, the Target collection is synthetic, save oddly for the leather soles on the shoes. The line’s metallic, rose-gold finish is straight out of a mall kiosk, but most items are offered in other colors and finishes.

The collection will be in stores until March 23, when Target returns to its detergent and baby wipes glory, at least until the next designer fling.
